The Overview

Being one of the largest suppliers of infrastructure and engineering products to the UAE since it was established in 1968, Bahri & Mazroei Trading Co. LLC (BMTC) has an extensive portfolio that covers lighting, urban solutions, electrical systems, water and instrumentation, serving customers across construction, industry and government.

Additionally, BMTC has distribution rights for prestigious global brands and its own lighting ranges, JUPITER and ORIX.

BMTC used to maintain product information for both of these product brands primarily in Excel. However, this method became increasingly difficult to scale because there were numerous combinations for every single luminaire, including wattage, colour temperature, beam angle and other specifications. Each combination had to be created and checked manually, while catalogues, price lists and downstream exports demanded further rework.

The Challenge

The Old Operating Model
  • A high reliance on spreadsheets. Product records were maintained manually in Excel files.
  • Variant-by-variant effort. Teams had to recreate every combination of wattage, colour temperature and beam angle.
  • Long lead times for producing new content. The process of creating catalogues, price lists and exports required repeated preparation and checking.

THE GOVERNANCE GAP

  • The lack of control over the approval process. Data could move towards publication without going through a consistent review sequence.
  • Greater exposure to errors. When information was duplicated manually, there was a greater risk of inconsistencies occurring between specifications and codes.
  • Poor traceability of master-data changes. Master-data changes were difÏcult to track across different files and outputs.

DATA QUALITY BY DESIGN

The threshold of an 80% score is considered to have been reached when 80% of the specific attributes required for a product type have been added to the record. The record can then be reviewed. Approval remains a separate controlled step in the process, and the workflow status determines what information will be visible.

How It Works

A Product model and workflow designed for lighting complexity

From one master record to complete, coded variants

Rewire’s import and variant-generation engine is based on approved attribute choices and produce the required product variations. Each variant produced is given its own unique item or ERP number. The prevents redundant input of common attribute maintains a direct link back to the parent product.

The configured workflow dictates 6 different statuses in which products exist during the process of approval, visibility, and lifecycle. Those are Draft, Review, Approved, Published, Unpublished, and Obsolete. The first 3 statuses form the approval path. The record will be automatically published or unpublished based on its current workflow status. All users have their own roles with permission to view or edit information.

If a product goes into the Obsolete state, the record history will remain intact. It can later be reactivated without creating a new record. Any bulk renaming of master records is also logged, leaving an audit trail of previous changes.

The Results

Faster product operations – with control built in

Rewire allows BMTC to have one source of truth for both JUIPTER and ORIX. Instead of having to copy, reconcile and check multiple spreadsheets, which was how the work used to be handled, BMTC can now structured master data and repeatable rules to drive its work, As such, Rewire supports faster execution, better consistency in product information and less error-prone output without weakening product governance.

What changed in day-to-day operations

One Source Of Truth: The product information of JUPITER & ORIX is governed in one central system.

ACCELERATED CONTENT PROCESSING AND DISTRIBUTION: Approved data is reused while product catalogues, price lists and marketing content are being prepared.

MANAGED PUBLISHING: States within the workflow are set up so that only complete and approved information is exported to customer-facing outputs.

OPERATIONAL SCALABILITY: This operational model supports additional products, brands and channels without an increase inspreadsheet work.

What changed in day-to-day operations

PERFORMANCE CONTEXT

These figures were recorded during BMTC implementation validation using configured product data and workflows. The 1-2 minute figure reflects variant generation for tested attribute sets; <1 second refers to targeted product searches; and 5-30 seconds covers synchronous Excel exports of datasets up to 10,000 products. Actual times vary with variant complexity, data volume and infrastructure.
